General FAQs
Please get in touch if you have any further questions.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture needles are very fine and most people feel little to no discomfort, though occasional brief sensations such as tingling, heaviness, warmth or a brief sharp feeling can happen.
If you’re particularly nervous about pain, please let me know — I can adapt treatment to be very gentle, including using techniques that feel minimal or pain-free.
Many anxious patients are surprised by how comfortable sessions feel. Most people find treatments relaxing overall.
What happens during my first appointment?
Your first session includes a thorough consultation about your health, lifestyle and symptoms, followed by a personalised acupuncture treatment.
Chinese medicine looks at the whole body — so we may discuss sleep, digestion, stress, emotions and energy levels alongside your main concern. This helps treatment support deeper, longer-lasting balance rather than isolated symptoms.
How many treatments will I need?
This depends on your individual situation and what you’re seeking support with.
Acute issues (such as recent pain or injury) may improve within a few sessions, while hormonal imbalances and long-standing symptoms usually benefit from a course of treatments.
For many women’s health concerns, treatment often begins with weekly sessions for around three menstrual cycles to support deeper hormonal regulation. As symptoms improve, sessions are typically spaced out to every two weeks, then monthly or every four to six weeks for ongoing maintenance.
We’ll always review progress together and adapt your treatment plan based on how your body responds.
Is acupuncture safe?
Yes — acupuncture is very safe when carried out by a qualified practitioner.
I use sterile, single-use needles and follow strict hygiene and professional standards at all times.
Can acupuncture help with stress and emotional wellbeing?
Absolutely. Acupuncture works directly with the nervous system and is widely used to support stress, anxiety, emotional overwhelm and sleep difficulties.
Many patients notice improvements not only in physical symptoms, but also in mood, relaxation and overall wellbeing.
Will I feel anything after treatment?
People experience different responses. Some feel deeply relaxed, energised, lighter, or emotionally settled. Others may feel slightly tired for a short time.
These are all normal responses as the body adjusts and begins to rebalance.
Do I need to believe in acupuncture for it to work?
No — acupuncture works through physiological processes such as nervous system regulation, circulation and hormonal signalling.
Many people who are initially unsure or sceptical still experience meaningful improvements.
